About the Coaches

Coach Richard Wharton

The Cycling Center of Dallas is led by Coach Richard Wharton, a certified Level 1 Elite coach through USA Cycling. He brings over 17 years of experience, including pioneering the concept of indoor wattage-based group training. Coach Wharton has been published in magazines and scientific journals and has lectured as a proponent of wattage-based training since 1995. He has also consulted with multiple corporations globally on power meters and the application of wattage for cycling fitness.

Coach Scott Whitten

Triathlon coach Scott Whitten has been training athletes since 1997. Since joining the Cycling Center of Dallas in 2007, he has become the premier coach for triathlon training in north Texas by combining his own methodology of cardiovascular efficiency through the use of heart rate variability and lactate analysis with the CCD's wattage-based training philosophy.

Coach Steen Rose

Coach Steen Rose is the most recent addition to the staff at the Cycling Center of Dallas. He brings a wealth of knowledge from the world of track cycling, as well as road racing and triathlon. Steen has competed in Europe as an "Espoire" (under-23) and has been a state, regional, and national champion in different categories throughout his career to date. Steen is an elite-level coach under the tutelage of the "father" of cycling in the United States, Joe Friel.
